Aquaponics System

Adopting the Aquaponics Systems

In a world almost singly dependant on agriculture, changes have been made making the ratio of the population to food supply read at negative number. Researchers have continued to burn midnight oil in a quest to balance these deficits and we can say, in one way or another, they are succeeding. Aquaponics system is a shuffle of both hydroponics and aqua-life or aquaculture whereby farmers seek to reap the benefits of both.

Continuous circle

In essence, this is a system that incorporates two very distinctive worlds. Fish or aquatic animals are reared under the same environment with plants, technically sharing resources in what can be termed as the best form of symbiosis. Fish are reared in a specialized chamber with circulating fresh water. Whatever their droppings or waste is carried along by the water and into the hanging roots of plants set in the same system. These plants will take in this manure which is full of nutrients. By virtue of being in a circle of flowing water, plants are assured of enough nutrients which are essential for their growth.

In this system, there is maximum conservancy of water and energy, as the same water sustaining the aquatic animals is the same water being used to feed plants. Costs of fertilizers are also minimized, as what is dropped by the animals is converted to fertilizer.

Currently, food production has gone up by a huge percentage, with prices for the same going down owing to a stable availability. Because of the safety assurance of plants grown using this system, so many people have turned themselves as farmers in a quest for health and steady supply of vegetables and fruits. Researchers have stepped in to allay any fears that these products may not be healthy. On the contrary, they are the best prescribed foods as they are said to contain nutritious values in wholesome.

The Role Of Farming

Farming was once the largest single industry in majority parts of the world. As an example, nearly hundred years ago, half of the American population worked on farms, but however the number has declined to less than three percent of the workforce today. At the same time, prices for farm products have fallen as compared to income and other prices in the economy. There has been noted a stagnation in the farm income due to some other reasons. But on the other side, if we take a look at the overall world demand for food, it has risen as time passed on and this rise has again taken farming back in action, of which Aquaponics Systems form an integral part.

The concept of most people about farming is that it seems a backward business to them but however statistical analysis and study has shown that the productivity in the farming sector has risen a lot as compared to many other industries. There are certain reasons that are responsible for the increase in productivity of the farming business apart from the raised demand only. The factors responsible behind the productivity increase in the farming sector are mechanization through tractors, improved fertilization and irrigation along with the selective breeding and development of new seeds. Where irrigation and aqua farming are concerned, another factor to improve these two is the high use of Aquaponics Systems. Aquaponics System is an ideal approach for the control of water loss along with a cost effective fertilization. All these factors have played a big role in lifting up the rate of farming productivity as compared to the olden days when although the production was high but productivity level or rate was low. However in current era, production might be low but productivity has improved a lot. This rapid productivity growth has lifted the level of supply up to a great extent and the positive aspect of this increased supply of farm products has helped a lot in reducing the overall agriculture product piece.

An Aquaponics System consists of a two-tier system, which consists of a system in which fish is reared and the manure from fish is then taken to a biofilter, which takes the manure and converts it into nutrients that are then fed to a hydroponics system that is used to grow plants. This means that an environment of symbiosis is created, which results in two systems depending upon each other and cooperating with each other for the assurance of survival. Such a system means that the efficiency of both sub systems can be maximized and thus it can be said that the Aquaponics Systems are an efficient and effective way of growing food and meat for the population in a relatively small amount of space. They are known to have saved energy and are perfect in recycling water, especially in those areas where the water is in short supply. It is used by the Aquaponics Systems to not only grow vegetables but also rear marine life.
