HPS Grow Lights

HPS grow lights, merits and demerits

HPS Grow Lights or simply High Pressure Sodium grow lights emit a yellowish kind of lighting and are only suitable for the plant boom stage as they provide a quicker growth to plants. They are however accused of making plants grow so tall with thin basement, more than those grown under other lights like metal halide. They improve the production of flowers and fruit capacity due to the crimson range of color spectra they provide. Plants however may look a little bit unhealthy from a point of view owing to the inability of HPS to boost their pigmentation.

Advantages

HPS LightHPS has a proven long life compared to other common lights.

HPS LightThey bear a higher light production consuming very little power as compared to incandescent lights.

HPS LightTheir ability to emit that very essential bluish light makes them so ideal for indoor gardening.

Disadvantages

HPS LightThey produce a certain intensity likely to pull insects which may be harmful to the grown plants

HPS LightTheir extreme light emission is responsible for thin stemmed extra-ordinarily taller plants.

More and more research has prompted scientists to come up with a combination of HPS grow lights with metal halides, basically to make an improvement of each. They may either be intertwined in single ballast or use varied ballast ground. This was after it was noted that each had its merits and demerits, therefore accommodating both would be a sort of timely solution. Due to different production of color spectra, a combination is able to give out the most appropriate intensity for the purposes of better growth and higher outputs. The drawbacks linked with this combination however is the fact that they cost much higher than standard bulbs and have a more shortened life.

Just as the culture of hydroponics keeps advancing, so will the lighting systems. It’s projected that in the near future, more advancements will keep coming, even to beat LED grow lights which seem to have addressed most lighting issues.

The Best Source Of Light

We always consider air, water and food to be very basic and important for life as we know that there is no life and survival without these basic requirements. As far as life is concerned, then we also well know that plants are also living creatures and they also require these basic things to live. But however there is another basic requirement that needs to be fulfilled for the life of plants, and that requirement is light. The fact of the importance of light for plants has given rise to the use of HPS Grow Lights. An HPS Light is a best source regarding the light requirement fulfillment.

HPS Grow Lights are heavily produced on commercial basis. HPS Lights ensure quick and healthy plant growth. Plants not only need good growth but also a good yield of fruits and flowers. Plantation is a source of income for too many people and this source of income could not be fully utilized until and unless the required plant growth along with best fruit yield is achieved. Now in order to give good yield, plants need good sufficient amount of light in order to carry the process of photosynthesis. HPS Grow Lights are a good alternative to sunlight as they help the plant a lot in performing the function of photosynthesis. Grow Lights have a lot of types and qualities but the most commonly preferred are the HPS Grow Lights.

HPS Grow Lights are very high power lights. The bulb of an HPS Light has a sodium filament which emits light with great pressure. As we know that plants have different requirements for light, so therefore those plants that need more light for growth and flower fruits yield can best take advantage from HPS Grow Lights.

One thing to ponder is that those plants who need less light must not be much exposed to HPS Lights as these lights are highly intensive and may affect the growth and yield of those plants in an adverse manner. The light bulb life of an HPS Light is very good and averages around twenty thousand bulb hours. HPS Lights need proper care if you want to get best advantages out of them. The distance of the HPS Light from the plant must be checked well as again we know that every plant has different nature and light requirement. An HPS Light provides the plant with light as well as heat. Nowadays we can see too many manufacturers in the production of HPS Lights but however only those manufacturers should be trusted that have a good history and an existing market reputation. Many producers claim to have sodium filaments in their bulbs but in some cases this might not be the case so great care is needed regarding the choice of purchase. The instruction booklet needs to be studied carefully before you start to use the grow lights. Another thing that needs to be mentioned is the fact that HPS Grow Lights consume more energy as compared to other grow lights.

The distance of the High Pressure Sodium Grow Lights from the plants affects the speed of growth and yields a lot. The correct distances need to be adhered to for effective growth.
